What Will Be Examined During a Colonoscopy?
A colonoscopy is performed with endoscopy and is used to examine the colon (large intestine), the rectum, and the last part of the small intestine.
Colonoscopy (Coloscopy)
A colonoscopy/coloscopy can provide clarity about the cause of intestinal complaints or, equally important, rule out certain causes.
Abnormalities in the intestinal wall and the mucous membrane can be detected using a coloscopy. Just consider narrowing, bulges, polyps, and tumours in the colon. During the examination, our physicians may remove polyps immediately or perform a biopsy. This involves additional costs but you might be able to get a refund from your health insurance.
A coloscopy is performed with the help of an endoscope. That is a thin, flexible tube with a small camera attached to it. The camera is connected to a monitor on which the physician can see the inside of your colon, rectum and the last part of the small intestine.
Complaints/Symptoms
A long-lasting bloated abdomen may be – for instance – caused by stress, an intestinal parasite or inflammation.
If you suffer from long-term diarrhoea, irregular stools or blood in the stools, reasons include stress, Crohn’s disease and polyps.
Prolonged nausea can be caused by parasites, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and Crohn’s disease – to name just a few.
If you suffer from an inexplicable weight loss, reasons include inflammatory diseases of the small intestines, Crohn’s disease, parasites, and in some cases cancer.
